Kayan Mentarang of Borneo
Kayan Mentarang park is one of the most Isolated regions of Kalimantan and a part of Kayan Mentarang National Park at Indonesia Borneo Island. Traditional Dayak Tribes, with a wealth of ecological and cultural treasures that survive deep within the rain forest jungle at the Krayan mountain plateau. The area covers the upper course of the Krayan River and borders of the Upper Bahau River to the south, The flora in it’s vicinity of Kayan Mentarang Nature Reserve as a protected Cloud Rain Forest area of about 1.000.000 hectares are more then hundred years old. However, there are more attractions then dense jungle only, the valleys, and flowers, including the black orchid, and rhododendrons species in the dense forest, not to forget the caves and stone shaped burial sides.
The traditional Dayak Tribes of the area are the Dayak Punan, Dayak Sa-baan and Lun Daleh.

CROSS KAYAN MENTARANG EXPEDITION
Duration 14 Days / 13 Nights
Day 01 - 03: TARAKAN, LONG BAWAN, LONG LAYU ( BLD)
Meeting service, transfer to airport for the flight to Long Bawan. Upon Arrival at Long Bawan, directly start trekking to the south for two Full days, you will pass primary tropical rain forest. Lots of wildlife, almost never seen, will show up here, plenty of primates including Gibbons and Leaf monkeys, hornbills and a lot more will show up along the way. Upon arrival at Long Layu where the wild adventure awaits. Check in at the Home stay or Local House, afternoon trek through the surrounded forest and village to catch a first glimpse of the area.Salt-making is a traditional activity in the Krayan area. The salt is founded in the salt springs and were exchanged for prestige items. Meals provided and overnight at Local House or Home stay.
Day 04: LONG LAYU, TANJUNG PASIR ( LONG RUNGAN) (BLD)
Trek Through the Forest of North Borneo passing irrigated dry rice fields, the rock complex called Honey Rock, which arises about 40 meters high from the forest. The history speaks through the caves and burial sites, on the route we will have a amazing view over the towering trees in this hilly dense forest. Meals enroute and overnight at Local House or Home stay.
Day 05: TANJUNG PASIR (LONG RUNGAN), TANG TAAN (BLD)
Downstream of Tanjung Pasir is a settlement called "Tang Laan" along the Krayan River, Along the way we will pass a rapid and a rock with an impressive human figure carving on it. Meals enroute and overnight at Local House or Home stay.
Day 06 & 11 : TANG TAAN, FOREST TREK, LONG PUJUNGAN (BLD)
Six Full days dense jungle and prime rain forest trekking expedition to Long Pujungan. On the way several villages and Dayak settlements will be passed, diverse wildlife in the tropical forest will be seen and hunt.
Day 12: DOWNSTREAM, LONG PUNJUNGAN, LONG BIA (BLD)
After breakfast start our trip downstream by motor canoe or long boat to Long Bia, overnight at local house, meals provided on the way.
Day 13: LONG BIA, TANJUNG SELOR (BLD)
Breakfast, continue our trip downstream to Tanjung Selor, after arrival check in at simple hotel free at leisure, meals provided, overnight at Hotel in Tanjung Selor
Day 14: TANJUNG SELOR, TARAKAN (B)
Breakfast, cross the sea by speedboat to Tarakan, and transfer to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
Kayan Mentarang FactsKayan Mentarang well know as the Heart of Borneo is leading you through unfoot-printed jungle of the highest quality found at Kalimantan, a highland area between the 1500-2200 meters above sea level with steep hills, and dozens of rivers have to be crossed. The Jungle area is totally unhabited and un-explored, till we reach the highlands of Krayan where about a 2000 families live totally isolated along the Malaysian Border side. During the trek simple camps will be made, while we hunt for fish and meat along the way.
