Borneo scuba dive paradise

Derawan Island has a total land surface of 40,000 hectares and is a nature reserve with beautiful scenery and beaches. Several species of rare flora and fauna are preserved here, such as scaled turtles, belimbing turtles and sea cows.
This Island is occupied by Bajau people, living in their traditional villages, and even in the stilt houses build in the sea. Derawan sea gardens are beautiful, the paradise white beaches and coastal forests are inhabited by sea birds, iguanas, and swallows. There are caves inhabited by various kinds of crabs. The waters around Derawan are good for swimming, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and other water sports.
The sea which surround Derawan itself is filled with critters such as flamboyant cuttlefish, squat lobsters, ghostpipe fish, bluering octopus, nudibranchs, seahorses, ribbon eels and scorpionfishes.
Rabu-rabu Island is very small island next Derawan, and is also called Snake Island. There are also Tanjung Batu, Panjang, and Kakaban Island, the latter with lakes.

Several island are found along the East Kalimantan coast which make attractive dive destination. Among them are Nabucco and Maratua.

Nabucco Island Resort

Diving around Kakaban is thrilling with at the Barracuda Point and the colourful wall of Gorganian Forrest.
Kakaban Island has a saltwater lake inside where jellyfish can be explored.

Maratua Island

Maratua is beautiful Island in development, very recent lot's of new resorts were build to supply the tourism booming to this small paradise.
Maratua, with a small lake on it, and a bay facing the Sulawesi sea, has two Bajau tribe fishermen villages, and is suitable for snorkeling or scuba diving, either just relax under the palm tree. The Island is reachable from Tanjung Redep / Berau.
