Berau as a region of East Kalimantan Indonesia province, has a natural heritage biodiversity at the main land of Borneo island in front of the coastal bounty Derawan archipelago with its Bajau tribe Derawan Island, Kakaban Jellyfish lake, Sangalaki island turtle beach and Maratua island bounty white palm beaches. Berau region un-explored jungle lands with mountain slopes and valleys filled with tranquil tropical rain forest is one of the largest untouched and diverse jungle of its kind in East Kalimantan.
The wild orangutan population at Berau, is the largest population of Orangutans at Borneo Island, and due of the tourism development of the Derawan Archipelago with its resorts at Maratua tropical bounty paradise island, Berau therefor has declared several regions as protected rain forest zones and wildlife jungle corridors to be conserved and developed for tourism activities.
Beside the tropical rain forest flora and fauna, the traditional culture of the native Borneo Dayak tribes, live in their authentic villages and longhouse settlements doing hunting, fishing, dry farming, collecting honey, gaharu (fragrant resin) and bird nests as their daily activities in the jungle. The main infrastructure channel into the Berau jungle area are the muddy fast stream rivers connecting the forest with the villages as the only access back road to the outside world.

Day 01: BERAU, MERASA (D)
Upon arrival at Berau airport, meet your tour guide at the arrival hall, short briefing, before transfer by car/minibus for about 2 hours to Merasa Dayak village at the Lesan River, possibility for sightseeing in village to explore traditional local culture, evening free at own leisure, dinner at local restaurant, overnight at Guesthouse Merasa.

Day 02: MERASA ORANGUTAN JUNGLE TREK, BENUA BARU DAYAK VILLAGE, BERAU (BL)
Simple Breakfast at your local guesthouse in Merasa, before we head up by kayak upstream the Lesan River, for about 2 hours, you will enjoy the scenery of the river banks filled with tranquil greenery of lowland and towering dipterocarps trees which mark as the start of getting into the dark Borneo Jungle, during the motor canoe cruise you might spot various wildlife as otters, monkeys and birds species. Visit Pulau Bawan as the Orangutan Island in the Lesan River, afterwards a short jungle trek, upon the field condition, possibility to the waterfall, old Dayak grave and limestone cave. Late morning return by canoe to Merasa village to continue by car for about 1 hour to Benuaq Baru Dayak Kayan village, The Dayak Longhouse Culture and arts of Benua Baru settlement are of extra ordinary vibrant designs, characteristic flowing geometrical portraying jungle wildlife scenes wooden statutes.
