Pygmy Elephant of Borneo

The Borneo Pygmy Elephant can be found at the Nort Eastern Part of Kalimantan Island in Indonesia. Pygmy elephants are living in Asia and Africa, while those differs, The Borneo Pygmy Elephant is inhabiting the Tropical Rainforest of North Borneo ( including Sabah ), it was long know as the Asian Elephant.

BORNEO PYGMY ELEPHANT TREK EXPEDITION

Tour Duration 07 Days / 06 Nights

Day 01 : TARAKAN (D)
Upon arrival at Tarakan airport, transfer to Hotel, free at own leisure, possibility for a sightseeing tour in Tarakan, dinner at local restaurant and overnight at hotel in Tarakan.

Day 02 : TARAKAN, MALINAU, BALATIKON (BLD)
Breakfast, then we drive to the harbor to board the speedboat for our trip to Malinau (3 hours), on the way you can when lucky you can see the fresh water dolphins and Long nose Monkeys along the delta of Sesayap River. Upon arrival at Malinau, we will continue our trip by car to Balatikon Village, and continue by motor-canoe upstream Agiston River into the deep dense Jungle of Kalimantan, late afternoon, preperation of our Jungle camp at the River Bank, dinner and overnight.

Day 03-05: JUNGLE TREK (BLD)
Simple Breakfast, we start our Jungle Journey by trekking the Forest searching for the Borneo Pygmy Elephant, foot prints which can lead us to the nearby group of these Pygmy Elephants, when lucky you can spot the wild rare species of Elephants in their natural habitat at Borneo Island. During the Treks, we will cross Rivers, and hilly Jungle mountain areas, do Hunt and fishing, Meals, prepaired, overnight at Jungle Camp. Flora and fauna is diverse at Sembakung from Mangove and swamp forest, to lime-stone and cloude forest, and possibilities to see lost of wildlife from orangutans, clouded leopards, proboscis longnose monkeys to tarsier.

Day 06: BALATIKON, MALINAU (BLD)
Breakfast, By Car to Malinau, for overnight at Guesthouse, Lunch on the way, Dinner at Local Restaurant

Day 07 : MALINAU, TARAKAN (BL)
After breakfast by speedboat to Tarakan harbor, from where we will drop you of at either a hotel or the airport of Tarakan where you can catch your Flight to your next destination.

Sembakung Travel Facts

Sembakung area is a remote area in the most north part of Indonesian Borneo, bordering with Malaysian Sabah, covering an area of almost 400.000 hectares, and is home to many flora and fauna species including the orangutan, Borneo pygmy elephant, black orchid and many pitcher plants, the area has 3 kinds of forest, swamp, limestone and montane, and clouded rain forest, habituated by Dayak Tidung tribe. The forest is primary with giant trees and rivers, long treks awaiting as access is limited, specially when rivers are, or stream is to fast for use, overnights are in prepared forest camps.
